Early Treatment

Many orthodontic problems can be intercepted if identified early. The American Association of Orthodontists recommends a child’s first orthodontic visit at seven years of age. Although most children will not require treatment at this time, bite problems or crowding of teeth may benefit from treatment and avoid the possibilities of permanent tooth extraction or later jaw surgery. Early treatment can guide the jaws and erupting teeth into a more favorable position, and also reduce the possibility of fracturing protruded front teeth. Orthodontic treatment also may lessen the likelihood that a child will be picked on by other children.

Adult Treatment

Nearly one million adults are wearing braces today—more than ever before. Many adults, whose parents could not provide orthodontic treatment for them, now have the resources to finally have a beautiful smile. The affordability of treatment, improved technology, and more aesthetically pleasing braces are factors encouraging more adults to get orthodontic treatment.
